Grow Pack Artist Book
2nd summer screen print project.
Folds up into a square book and opens out into an A4 poster.
To sell them I packaged them in plastic bags and put a business car, badge and some seeds in side.
I stuck a sticker on the outside of the bag with directions on how to plant the seeds.
I think these will sell better at artist book fairs but I did sell 3 at 'Artsfest' £6 each, which I thought was a good price.
I also made 3 different badge designs and hand pressed them together in uni, I chose a few different colour combinations for each design, I believe the badges were a great success, I made 60 and sold 40 at 50p each.
First summer screen print
'Let it Grow' poster
I ended up with 20 good ones to sell at 'Artsfest' 13th September, I sold 3 for £10 each, so was worth while.
They sort of go with the artist book I've made too, could be sold as a set, one supports the other.
I packaged them in brown paper with old fashioned tags, on which I wrote my details.
something to inspire :)

Just wanted to share this! real nice stuff, lovely ideas!
i particularly like the work of Peter Callesen and Elisa Mora (though anyone who knows me knows i cant resist a good fold or cut of paper! haha)
The work on here by Brian Dettmer, Su Blackwell and Ingrid Siliakus is probably more Artist Book Relevent, but this whole page in general is quite inspiring.

What are Artists' Books?
I think this a great short piece on "What are Artists' Books?":
"Definitions
Artists' books is the broad term used to describe books, unique or multiple, that have been made or conceived by artists. There are fine artists who make books and book artists who produce work exclusively in that medium, as well as illustrators, typographers, writers, poets, book binders, printers and many others who work collaboratively or alone to produce artists' books. Many artists' books are self-published, or are produced by small presses or by artists' groups or collectives, usually in limited editions."

Thomas Allen

"Thomas Allen, in essence, is a still life artist who through a very creative process disrupts the stillness. By carefully selecting from primarily vintage paperback novels and science journals, he brings two-dimensional images forward into three dimensional space. With simple lightning and the use of simple tools (i.e., scissors and razor-sharp knives), figures are cut out, bent and juxtapose in ways that present the tension and dynamics of staged drama. Other techniques are applied in achieving a pure sense of humor that also defy the original use of these materials and their ultimate destiny of being read once and retiring for eternity on the nearest bookshelf."

Liverpool Artists Book Fair June '09
Last weekend was the Liverpool Artists Book Fair at A Foundation. We had a stall there and looked so good! having more new books to sell really made our table look brillant. There were about 9 students who had stock on the table, selling books badges and prints, and we had a good sell (particularly Jat!!)!
I was there manning the stall on the Sunday, and Jat the saturday. In comparison to Leeds and Bristol it wasn't very busy, but despite that it was quite successful. There was always a steady stream of people showing interest and buying. Unfortunately this also meant that being the only one to watch the table, i only had a brief chance to have look round. (though that was probably best for my pennies.. we all know i'm a sucker for little cute things, and as usual there was plenty around). But as i said, i did have a chance to have a little look, and i met a few new people there too, as well as catching up with some of the usual crowd. There was some absolutely stunning work there!! It was really inspiring!
Here are a few pictures from the fair...
The Fair at A fountation
our stall
Karoline Rerrie
Stephen Fowler with a slightly more traditional type of stall this time around.
Some new faces were a Chiu crew member from the previous years students, Ben Morgan, Who it was lovely to meet.
Also were these guys from Brickface press, they were selling a zine combining music and art. really nice to chat to as well.
These were some lovely hand made books by a girl called Lucy Wilson. they were really beautifully made.
You can see more pics from the fair here!! I've also put up the Bristol Fair photos too... a little late i know! haha!
Also a bit of shameless advertising. You can also find out about any future events and other things i've been working on here on my happyasaimee blog.

badge ideas
Trying to get together some imagery for badges!
The first set just shows the entire images from 'statues of europe', which i think are a bit small and not so interesting. The second set, shows how ive cropped in on certain areas of each image which is a bit more interesting!
They would be cropped in a bit more because the circle shown is the outside circle, not the inner one.
what do people think?
