12TH INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS’ BOOK FAIR REPORT
Saturday was exceptional! Over 250 pounds, and more importantly gained much valued experience in the artist's book market.
Stars on Saturday were Yolande & Charlotte, who behaved impeccably as BIAD representatives, and helped Jatinder achieve a double whammy - one systematic journey sold to Maria from the tate collection, and another to one of the regional Art College's collection.
A lady from Barcelona felt Charlotte's work was so perceptive of her home that she bought one of the chine colle printed books.
Amiee was, I was told, exceptional on Friday, and I think all of her work has sold - drats I haven't got any copies, and apparently I have to eat my shorts when I next see her!
I think it would be interesting to see if we could with the help of the library at Gosta build our own collection? Wouldn't that be even more inspirational!
A very large and stately venue. Each table adorned with a pristine white table cloth!

Below are a few examples of folded silk screened books produced by students during specialist workshops held in BIAD printrooms by Kate McMorrine and Lucie Sheridan
The systematic unfolding journey seen in the left hand corner was again applauded by many
This is from Claire Whittaker's table - a flip book about a mouse trying to steal a piece of cheese. The book is set inside a mouse trap, and you're not entirely sure whether it's safe to touch!
dettmer otto - loved his work, his processes, both conceptual and technical

On technique, this book is made from stencil painting
a collaboration by otto and Katherina Manolessou, www.lemoneyed.com
Stephen Fowler - apart from his extravagant tache, his work was also a sight to see - another very interesting production process

Silkscreen Workshops????
Just wondered if there would be anymore silkscreen workshops ??
because a few of us didn't know about the one last week.
I would really like to experiment with this, especially for the backgrounds and backdrops of my
childrens book work at the moment. Hopefully =) thanks.

Kate McMorrine Silk Screen Workshop
Kate's workshop truly brought life to our print room, so much so that she will hopefully be coming back once a week to help out!
Here are some pictures from last weeks workshop:
Quite a large printing space
Preparing material to be exposed. Earlier on we coated our screens with UV light sensitve emulsion
Kate is adept in using cutouts, drawing, washes and other textures in her work
Our antiquated exposure unit!
Our drying cabinet can hold only five large screens horizontal
We have three medium sized screen beds, and one large one

Charlotte's attempt at binding
This is my try at binding how Rachel Hazell binds her books. I didn't find any instrauctions so it needs perfecting but apart from being a bit messy - because I didn't have a method - its worked really well!I wanted to have a go at making a small book for a business card and thought that this is quite a simple binding to use for this.

I came across Hazell's website today along with the many Blogs she seems to have going and found it all really inspiring and intriguing. There seems to be a wide range of styles of books she makes and her binding is different to what I've seen before!
